Vegetable Donations Help Community

At Kainantu, EHP on August 12th 2016, NKW Fresh announced significant charitable donations to community organisations of excess fresh produce.

NKW Fresh Kainantu Depot Manager, Chris Matmillo said that “The total donated last month was about 3000 kilograms of various produce valued at over 12,000 Kina.”

The donation was made possible because NKW Fresh had already purchased the vegetables from Local Kainantu farmers, however they could not meet the shipping times to Port Moresby and it was decided to donate the produce for the benefit of the community whilst it was still fresh. “Kainantu farmers were responding well to supply for NKW Fresh commercial markets however, more work needs to be done on farms to improve sustainability” He Said.

Fresh Produce donations were given to The Salvation Army House of Hope for HIV and Aids victims and Orphanage as well as the Kainantu Rural Hospital. Captain Susan Iopa, Salvation Army House of Hope Manager thanked NKW Fresh management for the donation by letter and stressed that generosity like this is what charitable organisations need in order to assist the community.
